Slacker!

Wow, I have been lazying around lately. I have something on the needles but nothing I care to show right now. I have a lot on the list of things I want to knit and one is the Cache-Coeur Bergamo from Weekend Knitting as seen in the photo above. Isn't that book awesome? I checked it out at the library and have renewed it twice already. I love almost all the patterns in it except for the egg cozies. If I started knitting egg cozies there would most definitely be an intervention (as there should be). If you are really into egg cozies please don't be offended. I just really don't get the point.

Anyway, the Bergamo seems complicated with a couple pages of instructions so I'm a bit put off but I can't stop looking at it! It won't really serve me in the winter so maybe I can cast on sometime soon and take my time. The book also has a Berkshire Pullover that would look great on my husband. That would be more practical for winter!

The book has some fun sidebars with recipes, gift basket ideas, tea taking instructions, and a list of movies that have knitting in them. One sidebar that made me laugh was the one about taking a bath. See below. Are you kidding me? Ok, yet another act that would have my family worrying I am going to far. Has anyone tried that?

I love the idea in the book about inviting guests to knit. The book states that you can set up a knitting basket with yarn leftover from finished projects. When a guest wants to knit you can have them add to a piece you started and after a while you'll have a momento of time spent with friends. Cute idea. I know for me I have some non-knitting friends that are anxious to learn so I keep a basket out and use that to teach them. So, if you get the point the book is good! I realize it is from the same publisher as the Knit Cafe book. I just like they way their books are laid out. I've been in publising for many years so I feel I can spot the good ones!

Back from Vacation

Well, we're back. I've got the back home blues BAD! I loved Alaska. I can't wait to go back one day. It was so beautiful and untouched. The time flew by so very fast. We went fished, rafted, fished, ate, drove, ate, fished, ate, fished, ate, and oh we ate. And then we fished. I'm not a fisherwoman by any means but even I was able to cast in some huge salmon. We are having our salmon sent home this week. As for the eating, the pies and bakery items in Alaska are AMAZING. It seems like every town had wonderful crisps. I had a crisp a day no kidding. I'm paying for it now but it was sooo good!

As for knitting in Alaska, I couldn't find any knitting stores. What do they do there??? I guess order online. I thought for sure there would be some good ones given the long winters there. I was able to finish one of my Crusoe socks using my STR yarn. I had to frog the sock half way through. The directions asked for me to initially cast on 44 stitches. That was really small. I ended up casting on 60 and I have size 7 feet! Here are some pictures. Will I start on the second sock any time soon? That is the question...

Anyway, it is good to be back. Now I have to catch up on some blog reading.
